Wetsuit Repairs & Alterations

Need a wetsuit repair ?

We repair and alter all types of wetsuits including triathlon. Many people do not realise that they do not have to put up with the discomfort of a wetsuit that does not fit properly. If your suit has "shrunk" or you are not an "off the rack" size, don't despair! Aquasea hads been repairing and altering wetsuits since 1969. We are able to repair or alter most wetsuits and drysuits to your requirements, and we will give you an honest assessment of whether the job is worth doing. We can let your suit out, take it in, shorten the legs and arms, replace neck and wrist seals. We do our best to alter suits such that the change is not obvious.  We put in comfort zips, wrist and ankle zips, attach pockets, kevlar knee and elbow pads, and kevlar bums. We are also able to attach Halcyon style pockets to neoprene suits.

If you rip your suit, or break the zipper, or the velcro closure has "had it", don't throw it out! Most things can be fixed, or a panel replaced. This is much more cost effective than buying a new suit.

We do not quote over the phone. There are too many variables so we have a strict policy of sighting the damage before we quote.

If you are a local, we are open 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday. Please come to the bottom of the driveway (leave your car at the top unless you enjoy reversing!) Otherwise put the suit in a postbag and send it to our post office address: P.O. Box 2141, Taren Point NSW 2229. Include a return postbag if you wish, your details, and preferably a mobile contact number, details of the damage and if possible mark it with chalk. We will notify you by text message or phone when the job is complete.

Please ensure your suit is washed, dry inside and out, and free of sand. We cannot work on suits that are wet or dirty, and a $16.50 cleaning fee applies.

Please note: All items are at the owner's risk whilst on site and in transit.

Wetsuits and drysuits represent a considerable investment. Our repairs and alterations are professionally done and cost effective. Professional quality repairs that will last require the correct adhesives, specialist sewing machines adjusted to stitch rubber, UV resistant thread and considerable experience. Do not rely on the advice of your mate to use a well-known "flexible" sealer - it will ultimately damage your suit and make the problem much harder to fix.

Here are a few simple tips to extend the life of your suit:

  • Make sure it is completely on  before you do it up - do not use the zipper to finish the job. It is made of plastic. If possible support the base of the zip as you do it up - this avoids holes in the zip base, probably the second most common repair after broken zippers!
  • Do not store it in the boot of your car, or in a wet pile on the garage floor. Hang it up, inside out.
  • Do not stand under the shower to wash it. Take it off and give it a good slosh around in a tub of water.
  • Use wetsuit wash. It is anti-fungal and anti-bacterial and keeps the rubber soft. Bacteria breaks down the fabric.
  • Do not hang it on a hanger when it is wet - it is too heavy and puts enormous stress on the shoulder area. Hang it over a piece of water pipe or similar, from the waist, IN THE SHADE.
  • Consider wearing an undersuit such as a lycra if it is a diving wetsuit. This not only makes the suit much easier to put on, it takes the stress off the glued and stitched seams - your suit will last longer.
  • If you damage the suit, or a seam unravels, it is important that it is repaired before the fabric delaminates from the rubber. It is much more difficult and therefore costly, to repair it once this happens.
